Veniamin Kondratyev: “Kuban benefited from food embargo more than other regions”

On August 6, 2014 RF President signed a decree prohibiting import of certain types of agricultural products, raw materials and food products from the countries which have introduced anti-Russian sanctions, to Russia.

- The last six years showed that Krasnodar region benefited from food embargo, perhaps, even more than other Russian regions. The interest towards farming among residents has grown; the industry gained unprecedented public support. It is actually profitable to do this business, as commented Governor to journalists.       

Since the year 2015, almost 114 billion rubles were invested into the agro-industrial complex of the region; more than 200 large business agreements were implemented, around tens of thousands of Kuban residents received new workplaces. 

During the sanction period more than 300 new items have emerged in Kuban – wines, deli meat and cheese. Generally, the production of Kuban agricultural products has increased by forth. Moreover, the region was able to build up the export of agricultural articles.

– The supplies of confectioneries alone have grown by four times, while those of poultry meat – by eight times. Our ice-cream is loved in the USA; Germans are interested in increasing the supplies of Kuban wine, as specified the Chief of the region.

On August 6, 2014 RF President Vladimir Putin signed a decree prohibiting import of certain types of agricultural products, raw materials and food products from the countries which have introduced anti-Russian sanctions (USA, EU countries, Canada, Australia and Norway), to Russia.

Over the last six years Russia has decreased food imports by one third – from 43.3 billion dollars in 2013 down to 30 billion dollars in 2019. The Russian agrarian export has increased by 1.5 times and made 25.6 billion dollars following the results of 2019 against 16.8 billion dollars in 2013.
